Bicycle Race!

Another West Palm Beach Alley Cat race came and went on Saturday. All proceeds went to support the MS-150 ride from Miami to Key Largo.
Basically an Alley-Cat race is a gathering of bicyclists who each get a map containing checkpoints they must find across the city. At each checkpoint the rider will be asked to perform some task - anything from answering a simple question to doing a handstand to dousing yourself with various liquids. The rider must complete the task and have their map marked off by the checkpoint attendant. Once they've finished their checkpoints they meet up at the finish line. After the race everyone puts on their party hats.
My checkpoint duty was to throw eggs at people for them to catch. Maybe they were raw, maybe they were hard-boiled. So you better catch it.
Unfortunately, I left my camera in the glove box of my car and Allen used the car to get to his own checkpoint.
So here are some cell-phone photos from the after-party:

And the Winner Is....

.....Some guy.
I didn't get a picture of him but he had awesome 80's wig hair. But Allen still should of won because his hair is real. Best bike award went to a stage. Yes, you read that right.
It was quite a crowd! One of my buddies said that there were over 200 bicycles there - more than normal. But who doesn't enjoy a rowdy Halloween party?
Here's as best a picture as I could get of the mob. All those lights are bicycle lights.
I have some video, too, but it takes too long to upload so I'll try it again sometime I don't have a hangover :P

Alley Cat Race!

Today is the day of the West Palm Beach Alley Cat Race. Allen and I will be manning a checkpoint as volunteers. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures to post later. The whole thing is raise money for the group riding the MS150 this year.
Speaking of which, I wish I had enough money to go this year. Really we'd just need enough money to take two days off work, and buy some gas and a little food (the ride is from Miami to Key Largo) .
We went two years ago, hauling the riders' gear. The camp out was held at John Pennekamp Park. It's beautiful, and you can get lost on the trails on spend all day swimming at any one of the beaches. A free lunch, dinner, and breakfast is served along with a free beer party on the beach. A beer truck is pulled right up. And this is what happens after a bunch of free beer:Ah, well, if we're lucky we'll go. And it's all for a good cause.
Have fun today, racers!

Bicyle Race in South Beach

Allen's getting ready to go on a trip to Miami for an AlleyCat Race on south beach! If I weren't such a bicycle chicken it would sound like a lot of fun. Maybe we need a rickshaw so I can participate. I can't do the tandem bike thing, because I'll eventually stop peddling and just let the other person do all the work. And we could all use fancy bicycle caps like this one from Bicycleocean!
I really do miss Miami. The city is so beautiful, so raw, and so full of life. Here's a picture from our last trip, which was ages ago. Late night concerts and early morning sunbathing on the beach. We need to get back down to the keys, too.
On April 5th I'll be participating in the West Palm AlleyCat Race. Not riding, but manning one of the checkpoints. If what Naomi says is true, I'll be the happiest girl slapping everyone in the face with red paint. I can't imagine anything more fun to do on a Saturday afternoon.
