I'm a bit off...
I've had an interesting week, filled with surprising news, disappointing news, strange news, and all-around weirdness. I'm suspecting there's something in the water or a full moon about, except that I don't seem to be affected by it.
Most of this weirdness is tied up in the personal matters of my loved ones, so I won't be able to elaborate, which is unfortunate, since it'd be quite a story and I'm sure you'd enjoy reading it. I'll have to write a book about it someday. At least then I'll be shielded from any repercussions by my wads of money and royalties.
However, I will share my favorite stupid question, brought to me by (more than one!) customers who invaded the sandwich shop I managed in my youth:
Me: Would you like a six-inch or a footlong sub?
Them: How big is a footlong?
ba-dum-BUM!

who watches...
....the Watchmen?
I am so happy this is finally coming to the big screen! It's been months of nervous hand-wringing and waiting, since the preview came out alongside the Dark Knight movie last fall. This looks to be quite possibly the best comic-turned-movie ever! My favorite thing about it is that what you see is taken straight from panels in the book.
Like this scene, where the comedian gets thrown out a window:Here's one with Archie (the flying ship), Nite Owl, and the Comedian:
And this one, with Ozymandias in front of his fortress televisions:
John's reappearance as Dr. Manhattan (in the cafeteria):
And Dr. Manhattan's glass structure he builds on Mars:
The Comedian (seen here, in a flashback from Vietnam) was one thing I was worried about. Someone so vile had to be true to character, and they really nailed him:If you like gore and action and superheroes with huge gaping flaws, you MUST see this movie!
And by all means, go out and buy the book, too!

New Purses
I've been trying to come up with a design for a lined purse and made a cute little clutch number.
This salmon-colored one was the first:My next attempt was a little more extravagant. I thought it'd be a great idea to make one out of a bunch of fish hides sewn together in a colorful pattern.
So..... that's what I did. I think it looks a bit weird, but everyone keeps telling me it's cute.
Next I made this little guy, who I think is wonderful. A gold / green shiny leather paired with soft blue.
And those are my new bags! What do you think?

YARD sale!
On Sunday I woke up early and hauled some goodies over to my friend's house so we could host a Yard Sale! I wasn't expecting to make a killing because, even though her place is in prime Yard Sale territory, Sundays are always slow sale days. But I figured it was worth a shot and at least I'd get to spend the day hanging out with my buddy, so off I went at 6:30 in the morning...
After a few hours the sun came up and we played frisbee and ate pizza. I wanted Chick-Fil-A but my boyfriend reminded me that's Sunday. Oddly enough, I used to work at Chick-Fil-a for several years as a youth and yet to this day it continues to surprise and disappoint me that I can't get some chicken minis or sweet tea on a Sunday morning.
Eventually the bouncy ball came out, which was more dangerous than we had expected.
All in all, a good Sunday morning!

Friday the 13th
Boo!
You know, I actually want to see this new Jason flick:When I was a kid I had a Cracked Magazine issue with a detailed graphing of every currant Friday the 13th movie, who was in it, who died, how and in what order, etc...
I'd sit up and watch the movies on Halloween and shout out things like, "Oh, John's gonna get it next - an axe to the head!" or, "Mary, don't make out with Billy! Jason's gonna walk up the cabin steps and stab you both a couple times for fun!" much to the upset of anyone else in the room who happened to be watching along.
Happy Friday the 13th!

New Stuff and Goodies
I could go into the shop today. But I'll be stuck on the counter helping customers locate their repair work instead of creating fascinating new goodies. Not my idea of a good time. I'll probably have to go in anyways.
Darn. Here's a sweet new change purse I made the other day - exotic sueded fish hide with a bright pink leather!

oh Monday
Every time Monday rolls around again I can't help but think of that woman from Office Space saying, "Looks like someone has a case of the Mondays!"
Even though I really enjoy my Mondays. Years ago when I managed a Subway in Kansas City I scheduled myself off on Mondays just so I could have one weekday to run around and enjoy myself. It did screw with my social life a bit, since most of my circle of friends had the usual Mon-Fri work week. We would all gather for a usual Friday night that involved keeping the party alive until the wee hours of Saturday morning and I would always be on the couch asleep by 10:30pm.
Now Mondays are a day of cleaning and relaxing, usually more cleaning than relaxing. But I do get to list a lot online, and that's a good day by me. Speaking of which, check out my new cuff bracelet. It rocks.

work work work
Ah, my time at the night job is over again....
I've only been working Thursday, Friday and Saturday lately so all week long I enjoy extra time to work with leather and then suck it up for three rounds of customer service.
I'm grateful for three things:
1) I'm not a server. 2) I have the pleasure of working with interesting and pleasant co-workers, whom I actually look forward to seeing. 3) This is a night job and therefore, I'm not entirely dependent on it. So if, say, someone who has treated me poorly, I have no fear of job-loss to hold back my tongue.
Most of my job involves repetitive squawking and saying, "How many in your party? Would you like a booster seat? Why, I'd love to bring you a re-fill," which only holds so much in entertainment value. So most of my hours are spent trying to find new and inventive ways to amuse myself. This can range from playing with toys children leave behind (thank you, tiny crossbow!), drawing comic strips based on unpleasant guests, and tormenting my co-workers. I occasionally get bored enough to harass the guests, but usually in a good natured way and rarely in anything that involves chucking plastic lids at their head in a miniature frisbee game that they may not be aware they're involved in.
If nothing else, my job is fun. Not the actual motions of the job, but all the things in between. I've always been interested in psychology and let me tell you, there is no better place to view the variations of society en mass than at a restaurant.

destruction vs. creation
So, yesterday I went into the shop and found that the Hospice shop next door had an unfortunate collision with a vehicle. Apparently a woman had mistaken the gas for the brake while parking. This seems to happen a lot in South Florida. If you ask me, it's a sign you should have your license revoked because you should never ever confuse the gas with the brake. I'm started to get paranoid when I sit next to windows.

Animal Friends
My dog, Bach.
He will protect me from strangers and come to the aid of others when he hears shouting and yelling. But most of the time I end up being the protector. We took him over to our friend's house on SuperBowl Sunday. When fireworks began popping in the distance he got scared and ran for the safety of the table.
I love this dog.

Birthdays Cuffs and Blogs
Today is my friend's birthday! I think.
I asked my sister when it was and she said tomorrow so it must be today.
Confused?
It's one of my sister's ex boyfriends from way back. She knew his birthday. He told me a just a few years ago that he tracked down his birth certificate and discovered his actual birth date is the day before he always celebrated.
So..... I think his birthday is today.
But if I'm wrong and I call him up to wish him well, he'll say, "You forgot my birthday again."
In OTHER friend news:
Today I read an interview with my friend and Etsy-shop-owner Bicycleocean! It's an EXCELLENT interview! Click HERE to read it. Or on the Jackie-O Bunny picture above.

AND I made a bunch more cuffs. I really cannot make myself halt the creative process - even when I'm running out of storage room due to slow sales. I made about five different items yesterday and if I go into the shop today I'll make another 5. Really, I should stay in and list, but we'll see how the day goes....
Don't forget to check out my Give-Away! Ends February 15th!
